We Request you to join us for an evening of celebrations on July 2nd at my friend Shyam Kalyans place near Valluvarkattam. ( No 18 , Old 22 , Second cross street , Lake Area Nungambakkam )
Time 4 pm onwards for Light snacks – continuing with a Hindusthani Harmonium recital by Ravindra Katoti of Bangalore .
It has been a long journey with My family’s tryst with disability . All along , since 1998 , when we took some outlandish decisions to grapple with the issue , we have been supported by a whole bunch of Teachers , Educators , and Friends . This meeting is to acknowledge some great contributions by a wonderful set of people . As well as to the grit and determination of My Son Kedar who completed his 10th Standard Board Exams in style.
The instrument of the evening is not what a die hard Carnatic enthusiast will go wild about . The views about this humble reed instrument is fairly well documented .
But like my son’s disability which is very simply defined as” a willing mind in an unwilling body “, We have chosen Ravindra Katoti and his Harmonium for a very similar experience which exists with the practice of that Art . Humble as it is ,THe Harmonium takes on a wonderful hue, in the hands of Katoti.
He is such a fascinating artist,, when given the full space of the three hour format . One can google and find a lot of his clips on Youtube .
He is eloquent , very poetic , and articulate too .We guarantee that it will be a fascinating evening .
